Origin of the Louis Vuitton Jeune Fille

“Jeune fille” literally translates to “Young lady”. It is the French term for an unmarried young woman, as well as one of Louis Vuittons older crossbody bags. Even though the name makes it sound otherwise, the Louis Vuitton Jeune Fille is a perfect bag for women of all ages! This crossbody bag has been around for quite some time. A lot of the vintage editions that you can find nowadays pre-date Louis Vuitton’s use of date codes. This means that the Jeune Fille was created before 1982!

The design of the bag

A charming and spacious crossbody bag with room for all your daily essentials, the Jeune Fille is a perfect mixture between sporty and chic. The bag consists of several pockets, so you can easily keep your belongings organized. The main compartment closes with a zipper, and inside you will find a small zipper pocket. Both the front and the back of the outside of the bag has a pocket as well. The front pocket can be closed with a buckle, while the back has a simple slip-in pocket. The Louis Vuitton purse is rounded on the bottom, and the shoulder strap runs all the way underneath the bag.

The bag is often crafted in Louis Vuitton monogram canvas with gold-colored hardware, and vachetta leather shoulder straps. Newer models can also be found in a variation of different colors, with the bag made of Epi leather.

            Fun fact: did you know you can use a Jeune Fille as a clutch?

Officially the Jeune Fille is designed as a crossbody bag, but it can easily be worn on the shoulder. And thanks to the completely removeable shoulder strap, it can even be used as a clutch! However, we would only recommend this on the smallest model of Jeune Fille (the Jeune Fille PM). The bigger models (Jeune Fille MM  and Jeune Fille GM) will probably not be very comfortable to hold, since they can be quite big. The shoulder strap itself is not only detachable, but also adjustable with a strap drop varying from around 45 to 55 cm, depending on the bag size.

Like many Louis Vuitton bags the Jeune Fille is available in the sizes PM, MM, and GM (small, medium, and large). Apart from the size of the bag, and how much it can carry, there isn’t a lot of design differences between these bags.
